The psychology department offers an undergraduate major program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as an undergraduate minor program. The program is open to both adult men and women through the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, as well as traditional age Women's College students. The mission of the department is to foster students' understanding of the discipline of a strong foundation in psychology, ethical decision making, respect for self and diversity in others. Students completing their major will have a broad understanding of the theories and research methods of the discipline. In this way, students will be prepared to apply psychology to everyday life, study the discipline on the graduate level, and work successfully in their chosen field.

The counseling psychology graduate program at the College of Saint Elizabeth is designed to prepare professionals and counselors to meet the challenges involved in providing counseling services to individuals and/or groups and to be effective facilitators of change and growth.
The curriculum encourages students to consider the helping relationship in light of current trends and challenges and will develop in the student the motivation to meet these challenges as a leader in the counseling profession. By offering a strong required curriculum in counseling with elective and specialty courses in a variety of areas, this program at CSE will serve as a comprehensive knowledge base for professional responsibilities and concerns.
There are masters' and certificate programs in two specializations:
Mental Health Counseling
The mental health counseling 60-credit program is designed to prepare professionals for work in a variety of mental health or human services settings, including mental health care facilities, training and vocational rehabilitation centers, child welfare and family counseling agencies, institutions for the aging and other social and community organizations or for admission into doctoral programs.
School Counseling
The school counseling 48-credit program is designed to prepare professionals to work with children in a variety of settings with special emphasis on educational settings. Building on the core counseling curriculum, this specialty adds courses designed to prepare graduates with the skills needed to assess and counsel children regarding personal, social, educational and vocational concerns and to develop cooperative relationships with community agencies in assisting children and families.

Students who wish to acquire the educational credentials to meet licensing and/or certification requirements may apply for this program. In this program, additional course work and/or supervised field experience is provided for students who have completed a master's degree in counseling psychology or a closely related discipline. Students must meet all admission and continued enrollment criteria.
