Savannah Campus

South University's largest campus is located on the southside of Savannah, GA, a city rich in history and charm. Convenient to the city's busy midtown area, the South University - Savannah campus includes computer and medical labs, a library, student lounge and administrative offices. The health professions building was opened in 2000 to house classroom and lab facilities for health profession programs. The campus is structured with the future in mind and to meet the changing needs of South University's student body.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program is designed to help students prepare for entry-level positions such as:

• Therapeutic assistant
• Clinical services provider
• Career advisor
• Human resources administrator
• Case worker
• Behavioral intervention specialist

It also prepares students to continue graduate study in fields such as:

Master of Arts in Professional Counseling

The South University Master of Arts degree program in Professional Counseling is designed to meet the local and regional need for qualified professional counselors. The emphasis of this program is on community and agency counseling. The primary objective of the program is to provide comprehensive academic preparation for a graduate to become a professional counselor, subject to applicable state licensure requirements.

The program is structured to permit students to pursue their master's degree while balancing the rigors of work and home. Classes meet on Saturday and in the evenings on some campuses. Students have the opportunity to complete two classes each quarter and should check with an admissions officer on class times.

Students who enroll in the program are taught using two primary modes of instruction. The majority of the program involves didactic and experiential classroom instruction, supplemented by computer-based assignments using Internet technology. The second mode of instruction focuses on supervised field experiences. Students are placed in actual community counseling settings and practice counseling under the auspices of an on-site supervisor. Students in field placements also receive weekly individual and group supervision from qualified faculty supervisors.

Program graduates are expected to achieve skill competence for professional counseling behaviors that include but are not limited to:

• Individual counseling
• Small group counseling
• Family interventions
• Consultations
• Diagnosis
• Assessment
• Treatment planning
• Counseling program management (including outcomes assessment and program evaluation)
• Community intervention
• Crisis response and/or counseling

South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: 1-404-679-4501) as a Level V institution eligible to award associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
