Founded in 1893 by the Sisters of the Holy Names, Marylhurst was the first liberal arts college for women in the Northwest.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The psychology degree program is structured to prepare you for graduate-level study or for employment in a clinical, research or applied setting, such as human resources, education, community outreach, substance abuse rehabilitation, case management or social work. In the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program you will explore a number of important topics, including the following:
- The who, what, when, where and why of human behavior
- The internal and external influences on thought, behavior, learning and development
- The history and progression of psychology as a discipline, and what it means to call it a science
- How public opinion and politics, as well as rigorous investigation and theory, influence how we define and treat "abnormal" behavior
- A variety of topics, including but not limited to, neurotransmitters, nurturance, prenatal brain development and cutting-edge research on Alzheimer's disease
