The Mount's counseling psychology program is designed for students interested in private practice, clinical settings, hospital-based pastoral care, social services, industry, or educational counseling. In additional master's level training, the program offers options for specializing and combining course work from other graduate programs, such as religious studies or education. In keeping with a tradition of education that addresses a wide of interest and professional goals, Mount St. Mary's has the distinction of being the only college in the nation to offer certification in counseling of individuals with visual impairments.

The College also offers a unique certificate program in counseling
Spanish-speaking clients. Instruction is highly personalized, with low student-to-faculty ratio. Classes are scheduled for the working student, with all courses offered in the evening or on weekends.

Human Services and Community Counseling (HSCC)

The Human Services and Community Counseling (HSCC) program is designed to teach you how to apply psychological research and theory to improve the conditions in your community. The focus of the program is on facilitating healthy human development and fostering effective interactions. You will learn the essential elements of communication, interpersonal relations and organizational dynamics. From this knowledge you will be better prepared for employment in an agency, school, corporation or other setting not requiring a specific license. You may also earn a specialization in counseling Spanish-speaking clients or pastoral counseling.

Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)

This concentration is designed for students preparing for licensure as marriage and family therapists by the State of California. Candidates may also earn the specialty in Pastoral Counseling, the Certificate in Counseling Spanish-Speaking Clients, or the Certificate in Counseling Individuals with Visual Impairments with no additional units required.
