Master of Social Work

The Master of Social Work Degree, a 60-credit program, is approved by the New State Department of Education and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program prepares graduates for advanced social work practice. There are three concentrations currently available: Child and Family Services, Physical and Mental Health Services and Church Social Work. A unique characteristic of the program is the goal of integrating social work knowledge with Christian faith perspectives. An Advanced Standing program, available to students holding a CSWE-accredited undergraduate Social Work degree, allows students to complete the program in a summer and the following academic year.

Master of Science in School Psychology

The School Psychology Program is designed to prepare students for direct practice within public and private elementary, middle, and high schools.  Direct practice includes diagnostic evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents, and parent and teacher consultation.

The Master of Science in School Psychology consists of 78 total graduate semester hours.  After a two-year full-time sequence of study and the qualifying examination, students will have completed 57 of the 78 hours.  The remaining 21 semester hours consist of a full year school internship, under the supervision of a school psychologist, and one additional course on facilitating character education in the schools. Students will be awarded a master's degree and may apply for Provisional Certification in New York State following the successful completion of their internship experience.  In addition, students will be awarded the CAS (Certificate of Advanced Study).  Students will be eligible for Permanent Certification in the State of New York following two years of full-time employment within the Public Education System.  Currently the program requires two years of full-time study and an additional year in an internship position.

This program is designed for full-time enrollment, which is highly desirable.  Full-time enrollment better ensures the integrity of the learning process.  While part-time enrollment will be considered careful adherence to course sequencing and course prerequisites is essential.

Master of Arts in Counseling and Ministry

This program is designed for the large number of professionals, paraprofessionals and voluntary community helpers in fields other than professional counseling, whose roles in part include counseling, but whose prior training has not included counseling theory or skills.  This includes many pastors, youth workers, leaders in churches and parachurch organizations and other voluntary ministry workers.

This program is not designed to lead to independent professional practice, but rather for those in professions, such as the pastorate, who wish to learn counseling skills in order to help those with whom they work.  Although graduates will not be qualified for licensure or certification, this program is designed to prepare laity, clergy, and people in other professions to do beginning counseling under supervision. Following completion of a one-year, full-time sequence of study and the qualifying examination, students are awarded the Master of Arts Degree.
