Founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary,
Marymount is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic university
located just minutes from the nation's capital.
Marymount is dedicated to academic excellence. Our faculty are
scholars and practitioners in a wide array of fields; but above
all else, they are committed to excellence in the classroom. They
join with our staff and administration in making this commitment:
At Marymount University, students come first.
The Master of Arts in Community Counseling program gives you the
educational experiences and skills you need to function
effectively in applied settings at the master's level.
Individuals who wish to work in a wide variety of community
agency settings will find this program appropriate to their
needs. Our students include individuals already working in human
service settings who seek to enhance their careers, recent
psychology undergraduates who wish to pursue a career in the
helping professions, and individuals from other fields who wish
to make the transition into a counseling career.
Marymount also offers a forensic psychology option for students
in the community counseling degree program. This is an
opportunity to earn both a degree in community counseling and a
master's degree in forensic psychology, while completing the
academic requirements needed for licensure for the LPC.

Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling
The Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling program trains
competent clinicians in counseling ministry, thus providing
counseling services from a faith based and spiritual perspective.
Seeking first the integration of theory and practice, the
pastoral counseling program provides opportunities for students
to integrate counseling practice and theory with ministerial
opportunities. The pastoral counseling program offers a holistic
approach in training pastoral counselors in academic, clinical,
faith and spiritual based counseling services.
Utilizing their training, pastoral counselors provide therapeutic
services in a wide variety of settings including churches,

jails and prisons, the military, and numerous other settings.
Students can choose from three distinct programs: MA in Pastoral
Counseling, MA in Pastoral and Spiritual Care, and Certificate of

The Master's in School Counseling program at Marymount prepares
students to meet the challenges presented in school communities.
Our mission is to prepare school counselors who effectively
perform clinical, consultative and administrative tasks at
elementary, middle and secondary levels. Students come from many
backgrounds. Some have worked in school settings as teachers or
in other positions, while others come directly from undergraduate
education or from other careers. School counseling students share
a commitment to working within the school environment to deliver
services to students, staff and families.
