College of Health Sciences - Clinical Psychology Program (PsyD/MA)
Integrating psychological theory, research and practice, the clinical psychology program prepares you to enter a wide range of occupational roles and professional settings. The program offers both the Master of Arts degree after the successful completion of the first two years of the program and the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) degree after two additional years of study. The PsyD has become the degree of choice for those interested in becoming a high-level practitioner in clinical psychology. The four-year curriculum follows the practitioner-scholar model of preparation accepted by the American Psychological Association. You will complete the program with an extensive understanding of the theoretical principles in the clinical practice of psychology and the ability to utilize the knowledge in specific clinical situations. The curriculum emphasizes professional skills in relationship assessment, intervention, research and evaluation, consultation and education, management and supervision, and diversity. Clinical rotation settings are being established throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and can be completed at a variety of different settings and in rural, urban and suburban areas. Accreditation and LicensureAlthough the PsyD/MA program in clinical psychology will seek the status as an approved program from the American Psychology Association at the earliest time, this status is not necessary for graduates to become licensed in the State of Arizona. As licensure requirements and standards for professional practice vary from state to state, you are urged to examine the requirements of the specific state in which you plan to practice.
