About Medix School

Medix School is a registered private career college specializing in the training of personnel for health care careers. Medix School was founded in 1969 and has been providing professional health care training in Ontario since 1993.

Full-time health care diploma programs range in length from 21-88 weeks. All full-time programs include mandatory clinical/practical field placements. Medix School offers a number of part-time and weekend programs.

Diploma - Developmental Service Worker

The objective of the developmental service worker program is to enable students to serve those with developmental, learning and/or physical disabilities, or mental disorders. Students acquire the knowledge and skill base to effectively interview, asses, assist and counsel clients and their families.

The DSW program itself is condensed and intensive. The program studies the areas of psychology, sociology, behavioral management and communication as well as pharmacology and teaching strategies for the developmentally challenged.

Diploma - Social Service Worker

The typical student must be mature, dependable and committed to helping individuals, families, groups and communities in need of assistance and support. Prior work or volunteer experience is helpful, but not essential.

The SSW program is very intensive, involving a great deal of small group work, practice interviews and exercises in self-awareness. Employment opportunities for those with social service worker training are becoming more and more widespread, especially in the private sector.
