Affordability and Value
CCE at Assumption is one of the best college values for adult students seeking high-quality associate and bachelor degree programs.
A recent analysis of the cost of higher education for adults in Central Massachusetts found that the expense of attending CCE at Assumption is comparable to the total cost of tuition and fees at public colleges. We do not assess additional (and sometimes hidden) fees -- a standard practice at other institutions. Furthermore, CCE's tuition is about half of the cost of tuition at for-profit colleges. CAGS in Counseling Psychology
The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study provides specialized knowledge and skills in specific areas of Counseling Psychology. It is awarded upon completion of a minimum of 30 credits beyond the Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or related area. There are two CAGS programs to choose from:
- Students who have earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology but whose program of study did not satisfy all requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor may select courses that will address those deficiencies.
- Students who would like the opportunity to sharpen and refine skills as a therapist and develop sophisticated and in-depth expertise at a more advanced level.
CAGS in Rehabilitation Counseling
The graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling offers a unique and challenging master of arts degree leading to a variety of careers in human services, allied health, and related settings. Our graduate program prepares students to provide professional rehabilitation counseling services to individuals with special needs and disabilities. Many of our students pursue certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Our philosophy is to develop leaders in the field with a multi-disciplinary approach drawing from rehabilitation, sociology, psychology, natural sciences, economics, education, and the humanities.
Assumption College offers a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Rehabilitation Counseling for students who have already obtained their masters degree in rehabilitation counseling, or related field.
CAGS in School Counseling
The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies provides specialized knowledge and skills in specific areas of School counseling. The CAGS is offered to individuals who hold a Masters degree in School Counseling or a closely related field. A customized course of study consisting of 21-30 graduate credits is developed in consultation with the graduate program director. Students enrolled in this program have an opportunity to develop an area of specialization that is related to their current work or future career goals. Students are typically enrolled in this program on a part-time basis and have up to 7 years to complete their course of study.
MA in Counseling Psychology
The Assumption College Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program prepares you for a career as a licensed mental health counselor. The 60-credit Master of Arts degree curriculum is structured so that students can complete the program in as few as two years. The Counseling Psychology program can be completed on a full-or part-time basis, with classes taken during the summer, fall, or spring semesters.
The program offers two optional concentrations:
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies
- Child & Family Interventions.

You will benefit from their wealth of clinical experiences in mental health settings including hospital based inpatient units, and outpatient mental health clinics, nonprofit community agencies, special school based programs, and private practice.

MA in School Counseling
The Master of Arts in School Counseling program is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills and competencies that are required to be an effective school counselor. Theory, research and practice are integrated in a sequential program designed to meet the challenges of providing comprehensive counseling programs in contemporary elementary, middle and high school settings.
The curriculum includes a strong counseling core with an emphasis on theoretical models, concepts, research based prevention, intervention strategies and outcomes-based models. Specific competencies needed for counselors in the school setting, including problem solving, consultation and collaboration skills, knowledge of evidence based prevention and intervention strategies are emphasized. Diversity, disabilities, multicultural, and school reform issues are central to implementation of national and state developmental counseling curriculum models and are imbedded in coursework and practicum experiences. Coursework is coordinated with lab, pre-practicum and practicum experiences to provide the student with multiple opportunities to gain knowledge, and to develop, refine and evaluate their counseling skills within a school setting.
Generous Transfer Credits and Credits for Prior Learning
Save time and money at CCE at Assumption College.
With CCE's generous transfer credit policy, you can apply a maximum of 75 transfer credits towards your bachelor's degree. Those 15 additional credits will save you the tuition cost of five 3-credit courses, plus the many months or years it would take to complete five courses.
In addition, all satisfactory transfer credits from college courses, up to 75 credits, are applied, no matter how old they are! Credits for lifetime learning outside the classroom are also awarded to qualified applicants.
We regularly hear from incoming students who have previously-earned college credits that CCE at Assumption College is the most accommodating in accepting transfer credits and in rewarding credits for lifetime work experience.
CCE's expert academic advisors will show you how to take advantage of our generous transfer credit and credit for prior learning policies. Simply bring your transcript and resume to your first academic counseling session, and we will analyze how many credits will transfer to your new program. Chances are very good that the number will be higher than at other colleges!

No-cost Tutoring
An important and unique benefit offered to Continuing & Career Education students is access to tutoring services at no cost, whenever you need them. Peer-to-peer tutoring is available in most academic disciplines through the College's Academic Support Center. The Center and all of its tutors are nationally certified by the College of Reading and Language Association (CRLA).
The Academic Support Center also participates in the eTutoring program. If you would like online assistance with a specific subject area, you can submit questions for real-time answers, or submit a draft of a paper for comments on how to improve it.
Career Services
Developing and maintaining a rewarding career is important. The Office of Career Services for Graduate and Continuing & Career Education assists CCE students and graduates in developing and implementing their career goals, and works with employers to find the best talent for their organizations. While we cannot guarantee a job to any student or graduate, we will make every effort to help you define your career goals and conduct a well-planned job search any time that you are enrolled in Continuing & Career Education courses, and throughout the lifetime of your career after you graduate from a Continuing & Career Education program.
