School / Guidance Counselor Salary
Find out how much you can earn as a career or school counselor.
In general, a career or school counselor salary is slightly higher than some other areas of counseling. Demand for these professions will primarily occur in state and local governments, who will hire career counselors to assist beneficiaries of welfare programs who have used up their benefit allowances and will need help finding a job.
Another area of growth will occur in private job-training centers that provide employment assistance and education for workers who have been laid off or who are seeking new career skills.
Guidance counselors, who have gone by the professionally preferred term school counselors since 2005*, may also find employment opportunities as student enrollment grows in postsecondary schools and colleges, though much of this growth may be dependent upon budget constraints and federal grants and subsidies.
